Based in Great Britain, Matthew Major heads up MK Battery’s subsidiaries in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Asia Pacific territories, and overseas all international business for the company. This encompasses eight global distribution centers, four sales offices and a host of strategically located distribution partners around the world. Matt joined MK in 2003 as a sales representative, after which he held multiple management positions prior to his appointment to VP in December 2021.

According to Matt, “My association with MK has allowed me the opportunity of travelling the world and meeting great people in the many diverse companies with which we do business.” In a typical day, if he’s not flying off to visit key OEM and distribution partners, Matt is working closely with the company’s Sales and Operations teams to ensure that MK’s international business is running smoothly and planning for the future. From discussing sales strategies and expansion to managing staffing requirements and monitoring costs, most days involve engagement with Sales, Operations, and Finance.

The one thing Matt would love others to know about MK is, “We are a sizable company, owned by a U.S. manufacturing giant (East Penn Manufacturing Co.), but it feels like a family business. I came to MK from a family-run wheelchair parts company and moving to an American company was a daunting prospect. What I found though was a group of people, many of whom I now call friends, that come together every day to work in the best interests of both our customers and our employees. This family attitude starts at the parent company and is evident throughout the organization. It is one of the key factors in our global success.”

When asked what he likes to do in his free time, Matt responded, “Free time, what’s that???? We have two young children, ages 6 and 2. I travel often and when I come home, I am happy to do whatever they want to do, mainly go to the park. Hopefully, when they get a bit older, I will spend my weekends watching them play a sport. I still try to play football (soccer) once a week with a group of friends that have been playing together for 25 years. We are a lot older (and slower) than when we started!” When Matt gets some free time in the future, he hopes to visit China and the Great Wall. “The people and culture intrigue me and it’s one of the places that I will most definitely visit. I also still love going to Maui every couple of years as it has become my family’s favorite holiday destination.”

Matt is proud to work at MK Battery because of the company’s total commitment to enhancing lives. Whether supplying reliable power to wheelchair users so they can enjoy a more independent and mobile lifestyle, providing vital backup power to essential data centers that are integral to society’s infrastructure, or helping to supplement unreliable electrical grids in underprivileged or disaster-stricken areas, Matt views MK as an organization committed to proving high-quality energy storage products that are safe, dependable, and sustainable.

“This is only my second full-time job and after 6.5 years in the first one, my 24-year-old self never imagined staying with any one company for that long again. It's crazy to think that I have now worked for MK for almost 20 years (nearly half my life). It’s been fun watching the company and the people grow. I can’t wait to see how the organization will evolve over the next 20 years!” We are sure Matt will help MK become bigger and better while always keeping customers and team members as its top priorities. Thank you for all that you have done and will continue to do, Matt!
