Based in Dallas, TX, Larry Carter is MK Battery’s National Training Manager, providing on-board and continued education training for their regional sales team and is also their regional sales manager for MK’s eastern US sales team.
Larry’s regional sales manager role encompasses twenty-eight states and three regional territory sales reps. Larry joined MK in March 1995 as a warehouse manager, after which he held multiple positions prior to becoming MK’s regional sales manager in August 2022. “I had been in the automotive battery business since 1984 and in January of 1995 decided to make a career change. I remember finding this tiny ad in the local Dallas newspaper that simply read: ‘MK Battery Warehouse Position’, and I thought to myself, I wonder who MK Battery is?” Larry said. “MK was still growing back then (and that was just prior to East Penn acquiring us). I will always remember being interviewed by the founders of MK, Mark Kettler and Mark Wels. That is how small we still were back then. I feel like I have grown up with MK and will always be very grateful that Mark and Mark gave me a chance to prove myself with the company”.
Larry continued, “In 1995, my goal was simple: to be the best warehouse manager MK had ever seen. I suppose I did something right because here I am almost 28 years later in a role I never dreamed possible or considered achievable back then. MK has allowed me to grow as an individual who has more confidence in working with people and is much more knowledgeable about VRLA batteries than I ever thought possible. MK has allowed me to become the person I always knew I could be if given the opportunity”.
When Larry is not traveling to see key customers, sourcing new business or working with his sales team, he is developing, managing and maintaining various training guides and documents that MK uses as internal sales team references and customer training presentations.
One thing Larry would like for others to know about MK is that MK is not just a battery manufacturer/supplier, but a partner to many industries. This partnership includes building long-lasting relationships with customers that go above and beyond just selling a battery. MK provides technical training and ongoing support to ensure our customers understand that all batteries are not alike and when choosing a battery, quality and service should be a priority over price.
When asked what he likes to do in his free time, Larry says, “after coming home from work travel sometimes just being home is all I want to do.” Larry says he is pretty handy around the house and enjoys doing home improvements, gardening and getting muddy while riding his all-terrain/off-road vehicle. Larry’s travel bucket list includes Europe. “I have always been fascinated with the people and cultures throughout Europe and hope to visit someday.”
Larry is proud to work for a company that is so committed to the well-being of its employees, customers and the environment. No matter where an MK VRLA battery is used, Larry knows it will be a reliable, safe, dependable and recyclable power source.
“If someone had asked me in 1995 where I saw myself in twenty-eight years, I would never have imagined it would include being employed at the same company for pretty much most of my career,” Larry said. “I am grateful to have been a part of the history that helped MK grow and evolve into a name known throughout many industries as having a quality, reliable product and being a company with service like no other. I may not be a part of MK for another twenty-eight years, but proudly I have a son that works for our parent company, East Penn, who is sure to carry on the Carter legacy for years to come.”
