It is extremely important to take precautions when using, charging, and storing deep cycle, valve regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries.

Following these guidelines will help you to use them safely and effectively, while maximizing the life of your batteries.

Practice Consistent Charging Habits 

  • Charge daily for a minimum of 8 hours, and at least once a week for 12 hours
  • Use the equipment manufacturer’s recommended charger and charging routine
  • Avoid ultra-deep discharges and never drain your batteries completely
  • Charge batteries immediately after use   

Wear Proper Protective Equipment When Handling Batteries

  • Take off jewelry from hands and wrists – rings, watches, bracelets
  • Always wear eye protection such as safety glasses or goggles
  • Wear protective clothing
  • Keep any sparks, flames, cigarettes away from batteries  

Proper Storage & Maintenance

  • Always store batteries disconnected and FULLY charged
  • Charge batteries once a month while in storage for a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Avoid extreme hot or cold temperatures when storing batteries
  • Sealed VRLA GEL and AGM batteries require no watering
  • Keep valves clean; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO OPEN
